I found out the Glutathione I used contained yeast. The fine print on the package label said: Caution derived from yeast. Since I had or still have candida maybe this is what caused my reaction. I am going to try a different form of glutathione ( yeast free ) in the next week or so. Either transdermal or nebulized again. Hopefully this will help some. I know a few people that have reported feeling better from their quinolone reaction from IV glutathione. Once I start on this form I will post results. Thanks.

Hello. I wanted to share a summary of my experiences with Levaquin poisoning and my subsequent treatment. I took two 500 mg tablets for two days. I stopped taking the drug when I saw the possible side effects being discussed on the Internet. Unfortunately, it was too late and I was slammed with the familiar side effects. I had severe depression, joint aches, this weird vibration in my legs, tremors everywhere, CNS issues, muscles spasms, memory problems, headaches, etc. Those were quite possibly the worst days of my life. I thought I would never come out of it.
I went to two doctors. The first was a general practitioner, who is very smart and great, but he didn’t know what to do. I went and spoke to my Nephrologist (I have a genetic kidney disorder) and he had no clue. They kept saying the drug should be out of my system. I even talked with one of the leading Gastroenterologist/endocrinologist in the world (no joke – he is the smartest doctor I have ever met) He is also a pathologist and doctor of internal medicine. He publishes regularly, and taught at Harvard, Washington University, and other places. If anyone would know what to do, he would. But he didn’t know either (despite his experience, this is not his area of expertise).
The symptoms were still getting worse after 5 days since the last dose. My uncle who is a chiropractor, recommended I see a wellness center in Mesa AZ http://www.brimhallwellness.com. I am skeptical of just about everything these days, especially Chiropractors who say they can cure things like this, but I was DESPERATE. I went to the wellness center and they did all sorts of great stuff (which I can delineate if anyone is interested), and the symptoms started to subside.
I wanted to speed up the process, so I contacted Rob who is mentioned on Dr. Jay Cohen website (www.medicationsense.com). We discussed his success with glutithione injections. I made an appointment with Murray Susser MD (www.murraysussermd.com) who gives these types of injections. I have now received two glutithione injections and am feeling so much better. Wow. Dr Susser is very bright and is very confident he can help me get a full recovery. I dont mean to give anyone false hopes but my treatments seemed to have worked well for me. He also gives me an IV of 5 CCs of phosphatidylcholine, which should help rebuild the nerves, mylene sheath, and lessen the tremors ( I was shaking pretty bad when I first saw him). He says using the phosphatidylcholine before the glutithione IV enhances the glutithione’s detoxing effects. Both phosphatidylcholine and Glutithione are natural substances that exist in the body already. I am a kidney patient so I am more sensitive to chemicals. I have no noticeable side effects but I have not had my Creatinine or BUN levels checked since I started my injection, but I feel great.
I also took a bunch of other supplements including, chelated magnesium, B-vitamins, liver and kidney detox supplements, lipoic acid, and a few others things.
As a student of statistics in college, I fully recognize it is possible that I could have gotten better on my own without any treatments and that any correlated health benefits is not necessarily a result of my treatments. However, I feel so much better than I did just a few days ago. I still have some tremors and muscle spasms but much less than I did. My mind is fresh and my personality is back. I just thought I would share this information. I know how absolutely frustrating this condition can be and how desperate people are for some treatments (I certainly was). I hope this helps.

Hi Cameron,
So when is it that you took the levaquin? Were you suffering a long term adverse reaction?
I too saw Dr. Susser and he didn’t know anything about FQ adverse reactions and didn’t research it when I gave him some info so I never went back to him again.
Did you have to enlighten him on the glutathione treatment? Did he have anything else to add?
I could go see him again if I decide to get the glutathione treatment. Were your treatments injections or IV’s?
Thanks for any info.
I’ve been suffering a severe reaction. I took 10 days of avelox in Sept. 2006. While I’ve seen some agononizingly slow inprovement I still suffer alot and the bad days still seem to outweigh the good ones still. I know it will take a long time but I sure am ready to turn a corner for the better………and soon (I hope)!
Just started undenatured whey protein yesterday so we’ll see how that goes. I also have hypothyroidism and secondary adrenal insufficiency which has made recovery very difficult because my hormones aren’t being utilized effeciently at the cellular level due to damage.
Thanks,
Gigi
First of all, I wish you luck John. Bob told me that you are going to try the glutathione through IV. I tried the glutathione IV treatments back in September. I was encouraged by what I was hearing from others that had tried it, especially from Rob on Dr. Cohen’s site. Another friend of mine was having the same success. I jumped at the chance to try this. My success wasn’t the same as their’s. I had 3 treatments. The first one went well. I was able to go to the movies and be with my family and friend’s and actually enjoy myself for about 4 -5 days. My doctor decided that because I was responding well, that he would up my dosage. I started at 800 mg, so he put me at 1,200 mg the next 2 times. I turned out to be too much and my liver couldn’t handle the overload of toxin coming out. We discovered that my liver isn’t working up to capacity and couldn’t handle the toxic overload of it all. That was about 7 weeks ago and I am still suffering the side effects of it all. My caution is that make sure your body is ready for detoxing. If the liver isn’t functioning to full capacity, you need to do smaller doses. I still believe that this therapy may be a way to rid us of the CNS effects of this poisoning. I am currently going to see a liver specialist that also uses glutathione for detoxing. I hope he will be able to give me answers to why this all happened. He also specializes in multiple chemical sensitivities since I react to supplements when taken in large doses. Again, John, I wish you the best. Please procede slowly with lower doses to see how you react. Hopefully you will find success. My prayers are all with you.
Take care,
Shelly
Hi I took FQs too and paxil.. bad combo. I have severe side effects now and I stopped taking them last November. I started glutathione, and I am now up to 1200mg. I feel sick today. I want to vomit. I had been looking for someone that can do the phospholipid exhange therapy on me and I am having a hard time finding someone in the bay area. Also, my doc is putting in glutathione at the beginning of my vitamin C IV treatments. Don’t they go after?? I am trying to stop the degenerative damage as I am wasting away. I have severe muscle wasting and twitches. I have pain all over my body that feels like I’m on fire.
